Dann Huff Produced Some of Taylor Swift’s Top Hits. Now His Solo Work Is Charting
Huff has produced over 300 hits on the Hot Country Songs chart, and now debuts on Blues Albums with a new solo project.
If you haven’t heard of Dann Huff’s name, you’ve certainly heard his work. Huff is one of the most accomplished country music producers of all time, but he scores his first career entry on Billboard’s charts under an artist billing this week thanks to his new debut solo album, When Words Aren’t Enough. Released May 30 via Baked Alaska Records, the set debuts at No. 11 on the Blues Albums chart.
Huff has produced 371 songs that have charted on our Hot Country Songs chart, all since his debut entry in 1996, Chris Ward’s “Fall Reaching” (No. 68 peak). Of those, 40 have hit No. 1, including hits by Taylor Swift, Faith Hill, Kenny Chesney and Rascal Flatts.
No other producer has charted more songs on the Hot Country Songs chart this century (357), or on Country Airplay (337).
On the Billboard Hot 100, he’s produced 198 chart hits (all since 1997). Two of those hit No. 1 and seven reached the top 10:
Lonestar, “Amazed” (No. 1, two weeks; 2000)
Rascal Flatts, “What Hurts the Most” (No. 6; 2006)
Rascal Flatts, “Life Is a Highway” (No. 7; 2006)
Kelly Clarkson, “Mr. Know It All” (No. 10; 2011)
Taylor Swift, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” (No. 1, three weeks; 2012)
Taylor Swift, “Begin Again” (No. 7; 2012)
Taylor Swift, “Red” (No. 6; 2012)
His 193 production credits on the Hot 100 this century mark the fourth-most overall, after only Swift (203), and Glee Cast producers Adam Anders (202) and Peer Astrom (200).
Thanks to his production work, Huff has also spent 46 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Producers chart (dating to the chart’s launch in June 2019) — that’s the second-most after Morgan Wallen’s go-to producer Joey Moi (144 weeks). —Xander Zellner
